At present, the Korean Institute of Marine Science and Technology recently developed the Crabster CR200, the world's largest underwater wading robot with deep water, which resembles a giant robotic crab that weighs 635 kilograms and resembles a real crustacean. Based on its size and weight, this robot can be used instead of scuba divers to operate under strong currents. It can be fixed under strong currents, lowering the "head", raising the tail, facing the current on the front. The Crab Robot is equipped with 11 cameras, including an acoustic camera that observes the blurred sea water by reflecting sound waves and shoots live video.
A color high-definition camera can zoom in on survey targets at close range and send the survey data through a 500-meter-long tether to facilitate operator control of crab robots.
The robot uses a Doppler meter to measure the speed and direction of the water flow, while the acoustic pulse establishes communication at the bottom of the sea to determine its position. The robot can use a sonar to create a 3D image of the water environment. The speed of the underwater movement is 1.6 kilometers. It was built by engineers of the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology, and the first underwater test was conducted in the summer of 2013.
Scientists plan that the Crabster CR200 test water depth of 200 meters, and then deployed in the Yellow Sea to conduct seabed surveys to help archaeologists explore the 12th-century wreck.
