Jade gambling popularization

Jadeite has always held a special place in the hearts of the Chinese people. Beyond regular finished products, there's a unique trading method in the jade market known as "gambling stone" trading. This practice is filled with mystery and excitement, but it's not purely based on luck. In fact, it involves experience, intuition, and a bit of fortune. Here's some essential knowledge about jade gambling stones. Jade from Myanmar often comes with thin layers that show green hues, but it tends to have many cracks. There are two main types: old Houjiangyu and new Houjiangyu, both found in riverbed sediments. Old Houjiangyu is denser and heavier, so it settles at the bottom of the riverbed. New Houjiangyu, on the other hand, is found higher up in the sediment layers and tends to be larger in size. Old Houjiang jade usually has a brighter and more vivid green color compared to its raw form, while new Houjiang jade may look good when raw but loses some vibrancy after processing. Another example is black-skinned sand jade, which is only valuable when the green is concentrated and large. If the green is scattered, the base should be used to enhance the overall appearance. The quality of jade varies greatly depending on where it's mined, and the methods for identifying quality also differ. Therefore, when buying raw jade, it's important to understand the characteristics of each region. For instance, Houjiang jade is best when the color is small and the water (transparency) is clear—avoiding materials with dull or muddy colors. Black sand jade often has a grayish-brown base, which can ruin the green color if not handled properly. Similarly, gray card jade might have a very clear area, but the rest could be dull, so it's crucial to examine the whole piece carefully. There are nearly 25 production areas in the Myanmar jade mines, and understanding these differences in practice is key. When purchasing jade raw materials, having this knowledge makes the process much easier, like knowing exactly what to look for. When selecting jadeite, look for pieces with noticeable color variations on the surface, such as black streaks or patches, or those with mossy textures and skin. These signs often indicate the presence of green inside. Additionally, the base should be clean, and the water content should be low with minimal cracks. Some green jade, when exposed to a strong flashlight, allows light to penetrate several centimeters deep, appearing crystal clear and visually striking. However, if such jade is used for thin jewelry like ring faces or pendants, the green color may appear lighter, even turning blue or colorless. Despite this, the price of such material can still be high. Therefore, when choosing jade for jewelry, it's better to select pieces that display pure, vibrant green without impurities, with light penetration reaching about 0.5 to 1 cm. The thickness of the finished product can help adjust how deep the green appears. If the jade is highly transparent, it's ideal for creating high-quality, premium crafts based on the color.
