On April 12, PPG Industries, a global leader in paints and specialty coatings, announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire certain assets from Deft, a California-based specialized coating company. Deft has long been known for supplying structural steel primers and enamels to the North American aerospace sector, while also maintaining a smaller presence in construction and industrial coatings.
Barry, PPG’s Vice President of Aviation, stated, “This acquisition strengthens our position as a top supplier of aerospace coatings. Deft’s innovative waterproof and chromium-free technologies will enhance our product portfolio, particularly in the aviation industry. Over the years, both PPG and Deft have provided critical technical support to the aviation sector, and Deft’s eco-friendly coating systems will play a key role in supporting the sustainable growth of our business. Additionally, this move will enable us to accelerate innovation in coatings and deliver more comprehensive services to our customers. We aim to reduce environmental impact while improving performance.â€
The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of this year, though the financial details have not yet been disclosed. Founded in 1938, Deft is recognized for its cutting-edge waterproofing and chromium-free technologies and has served as a trusted supplier of enamel coatings for the aviation industry. The company currently employs 140 people.
