Global PV production capacity exceeds 100GW mark

According to the data released by EPIA, the global new production volume in 2012 was 30 GW, which is basically the same as in 2011, which is another record year for the global photovoltaic industry.

EPIA said that the cumulative total global production is currently 101 GW, and another 1-2 GW will be completed before the end of fiscal year 2012.

In 2012, the actual installed capacity in the world did not show significant growth compared to 2011, reflecting the industry's excess polysilicon industry faced last year and the trade disputes between several major global trade entities.

EPIA** Winfried Hoffmann stated: "Even if only a decade ago, no one would have expected that in 2012, global solar PV production could exceed 100 GW.

“There is no doubt that the photovoltaic industry is facing challenges, but the 2012 results show that our technology still maintains strong market demand on a global scale. In addition, the data published by EPIA also shows a more internationalized photovoltaic market. Last year, 13 GW of photovoltaic equipment was installed outside of Europe, and this figure was only 8 GW in 2011. The installed capacity in the European market dropped from 23GW in 2011 to 17GW last year.

The top three regional markets in Europe in 2012 were Germany (7.6GW), Italy (3.3GW) and France (1.2GW).

The top three markets outside of Europe are China (at least 3.5 GW, potentially reaching 4.5 GW), the United States (3.2 GW), and Japan (2.5 GW).

Mr. Hoffman said: "The key to industrial development lies in how to respond to new market challenges and formulate lasting policies to help PV technology to achieve sustainable development and upgrade mainstream power sources at the same time."
