Bearings for Diesel Engine Hydraulic Drive Systems

The hydraulic transmission system in a diesel engine typically consists of three hydraulic transmission boxes, universal joints, and axle gearboxes. In some cases, shunting locomotives may also include a working condition gearbox, and many of these systems are equipped with appropriate rolling bearings to ensure smooth operation. 1. **Function of the Hydraulic Transmission Box Bearings** When a train is being pulled, the power from the diesel engine is converted into driving force through the hydraulic torque converter, enabling dynamic braking. The function of the locomotive's wheels is managed by the hydraulic brake system. Inside the hydraulic transmission box, there are multiple shafting systems, and each shaft is supported by full-coverage rolling bearings, ensuring efficient power transfer and reducing mechanical wear. 2. **Main Components of the Central Gearbox Bearings** The central gearbox contains an input and output shaft, each with two gears. One of the gears on the shaft is used for shifting, while the other remains idle. These gears are connected to the shafts to transmit power. The shifting gear and the diffuser are usually located on the input shaft because it experiences higher torque. This design helps optimize performance and durability under heavy loads. 3. **Axle Gearbox Bearings** The axle gearbox is responsible for transferring the output torque from the hydraulic transmission box or the central gearbox to the axle. It acts as a deceleration unit, converting the longitudinal rotation of the drive shaft into lateral rotation for the wheels. The first stage of the axle gearbox typically uses a pair of bevel gears, while the second stage may use cylindrical gears. Depending on the gear reduction configuration, the placement of these gears can vary between "first column rear cone" and "first cone rear column" arrangements.
