(1) The bag-type cryogenic pump is typically installed underground, which helps it avoid the effects of hot air, ambient temperature, and motor-related heat. This design makes it easier to maintain a cold environment, reduces the installation height of the pump, increases the pressure head during filling, and improves the effective NPSH (Net Positive Suction Head).
(2) The overall structure of the pump is designed with symmetrical arrangements to ensure uniform deformation under cold conditions, which enhances its stability and performance in low-temperature environments.
(3) To facilitate cooling and improve the handling of hazardous media, the pump body is constructed with a double-shell design. The inner shell is responsible for withstanding the pumping pressure, while the outer shell handles the suction pressure of the medium. This configuration can help reduce the strength requirements of the inner shell, making the system more efficient and safer.
(4) Pump seals:
①Seal Configuration 1 (Single-End Mechanical Seal): This configuration has a simple structure and requires minimal auxiliary equipment. However, in the past, the sealing surfaces often experienced freezing or flashing issues during operation, which affected performance. Many manufacturers now address this by using methanol or nitrogen as a sealing medium when the liquefied gas temperature drops below -80°C, effectively preventing ice formation on the seal surface.
â‘¡ Seal Configuration 2 (Double Mechanical Seal without Pressure): This setup is ideal for long-distance pipelines where early detection of seal failure and leakage is critical. As shown in Figure 2-129, the inner seal functions as a single-ended, in-line seal that only fills the sealed chamber with liquid from the reservoir without pressurization. Therefore, the lubrication of the inner seal comes directly from the process medium, not from an external fluid tank. If the inner seal fails, the pressure inside the sealed chamber will rise, which can be detected via a pressure gauge on the reservoir, triggering alarms or records for prompt action. The outer seal serves as the main shaft seal and prevents any potential leakage of the liquid.
