When a deep groove ball bearing uses a solid cage, it typically employs long rivets to join the two halves of the cage. These rivets are similar in shape to short ones, but they have a longer rod and a lower head. The use of long rivets allows for a one-time forming process, much like the method used for stamped cages. Each rivet in a set must be individually riveted using an electric riveter. The long rivet mold consists of an upper punch and a lower punch. The upper punch is the working punch, which withstands high temperature and pressure during the riveting process. It is made from high-speed steel or hard alloy. The lower punch serves as a support, offering good conductivity and a smooth contact surface with the rivet head. It is usually made from high-quality low-carbon steel or brass. In an electric riveting machine, the upper punch is mounted in a fixture under the cylinder, while the lower punch is installed on the machine's worktable, aligned with the upper punch. During the riveting process, the rivet rod is placed between the punches. Once the current is turned on, the top of the rivet rod is heated to the proper temperature, after which the upper punch descends, forming the rivet head and securely fastening the cage. The solid cage used in deep groove ball bearings is generally made of two parts. These two half-cages are processed together as a single unit, ensuring precision. Special attention is given to the ball pockets and rivet holes, which must be machined simultaneously to maintain quality. After processing, a matching line is drawn at the inner or outer diameter of the complete cage. The two halves are then tied together with a rope to ensure proper alignment during installation. During bearing assembly, the matching line orientation is identified first, and the last rivet serves as a reference point to ensure the correct positioning of both halves. This careful alignment guarantees the bearing’s rotational flexibility and overall appearance quality.
