Reasonable selection and application of feed additives

Feed additives are small quantities of nutrients or non-nutritive substances added to animal feed to meet specific nutritional or functional needs. These can be broadly categorized into two types: nutritional and non-nutritional additives. Nutritional additives include essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals, while non-nutritional ones may consist of growth promoters, insecticides, flavoring agents, and more. Nutritional additives play a crucial role in ensuring the proper development and health of livestock. For instance, pigs require 10 essential amino acids, with lysine, methionine, and tryptophan being commonly deficient in feed. Farmers often use cereals, bran, and oilseed meals as base ingredients. Cereals are high in energy but low in protein, making them ideal for energy supplementation. In contrast, oilseed cakes like soybean meal have a protein content above 34%, making them an excellent protein source. However, when using cottonseed or rapeseed cake, lysine becomes the limiting amino acid, so adding synthetic lysine (0.1% to 0.2%) is recommended. On the other hand, when using soybean meal or fishmeal, which already offer a balanced amino acid profile, additional amino acids may not be necessary unless the feed quantity is low. Vitamins are also essential for maintaining the health of animals. There are 14 essential vitamins for livestock and poultry. Pigs that consume large amounts of bran and green fodder generally do not suffer from vitamin deficiencies, but young pigs, piglets, and sows that have limited access to these materials require multi-vitamin supplements. It's important to follow the instructions on the packaging when selecting and using these additives. Minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, sodium, and potassium are also vital. Salt, for example, helps improve feed palatability and supports physiological functions, but overfeeding can lead to discomfort or even poisoning. Calcium and phosphorus levels must be carefully balanced, especially when using feeds high in phosphorus, like bran. In such cases, adding calcium sources like limestone or eggshell powder can help maintain the right ratio. Trace elements like iron, zinc, copper, and selenium are also important, but their addition must be precise, as excess can be toxic. For example, copper and selenium are highly toxic in high doses, and regulations limit their usage to ensure safety. Non-nutritional additives, such as antibiotics, enzymes, and dewormers, are used to promote growth, prevent disease, and improve digestion. Common antibiotics like oxytetracycline and bacitracin are widely used, while synthetic antibacterial agents like quinolones and nitrofurans also play a role. Growth promoters like olaquindox are popular in piglet diets due to their effectiveness. Dewormers such as levamisole and albendazole are also commonly used, especially in rural areas where regular deworming is necessary. When using feed additives, it’s important to follow certain guidelines. First, choose additives based on the nutritional gaps in your feed to ensure balance. Second, always follow the manufacturer's instructions for dosage and application. Third, mix additives gradually to ensure uniform distribution. Fourth, avoid high-temperature processing, as it can destroy sensitive components like vitamins and enzymes. Finally, store the mixed feed properly in a cool, dry place to prevent spoilage and maintain quality. By understanding and properly applying these principles, farmers can optimize feed efficiency, enhance animal health, and achieve better productivity.

CSA Cement

CSA cement is considered as calcium sulphate aluminium cement. It shows the performance of high strength, rapid hardening or fast setting, corrosion resistance and carbonation resistance. It can be used in many fast setting applications such as non-shrink grout, self-leveling compound, fast setting tile adhesive or tile grout and fast setting repair system etc.
