Solid wood flooring: clean with orange peel solution

Solid wood flooring is like the elegant lady of home decoration materials. It requires careful maintenance, especially after years of use. Proper care can extend its lifespan and keep it looking beautiful.

Light-colored solid wood flooring in the bedroom should be protected from sharp or heavy objects. Avoid using hard tools or knives to remove stains, as they may damage the surface finish. Never drag heavy or rough items across the floor. When placing furniture, always use protective pads under the legs to prevent scratches. Before installation, ensure proper moisture control by using low-moisture materials and laying a moisture barrier. During daily cleaning, avoid using wet mops. If water spills, wipe it immediately with a soft cloth and dry the area thoroughly.

During the Spring Festival, family gatherings and children’s play can lead to spills on the floor. For general water-soluble stains, first dust the area, then use rice water or orange peel solution with a soft cloth to clean. If syrup or color stains occur, act quickly before they soak into the wood. Wipe with a cloth dampened in furniture wax. For burn marks from cigarette butts, gently rub with a wax-dampened cloth to restore the surface.

Sanitary ware: cleaned with neutral detergent

Toilets and basins are among the most used items during the holidays. To prevent clogs, avoid flushing items like paper towels, tissues, or sanitary products down the toilet. Any small debris that falls into the toilet should be removed promptly with a suction device. Avoid contact between rough fabrics and ceramic surfaces, and never hit or knock them.

To protect the bathtub and pipes, avoid using harsh chemicals such as sulfur-based bath essences, acidic or alkaline solvents, or hot spring water. Instead, use neutral detergents or soap and water for regular cleaning. For stubborn stains on non-slip patterns, apply a liquid cleaner. For rust or red mercury stains, first wipe with alcohol, then clean with a liquid detergent.

For wax, shoe polish, or other similar stains, start by wiping with industrial alcohol, then rinse with a liquid detergent. Grease stains can be scrubbed with a stiff nylon brush and cleaned with a liquid detergent. Never use scouring pads on bathtubs, as they can scratch the anti-slip layer and enamel surface.

Tiles: clean with multi-purpose decontamination cream

During the Spring Festival, kitchens and bathrooms are used more frequently, so tile maintenance becomes important. A multi-purpose decontamination cream can effectively clean porcelain tiles without damaging their surface.

For grout lines, use a toothbrush and a small amount of decontamination cream to remove dirt. After cleaning, apply a waterproofing agent to the gaps to prevent water seepage and mold growth.

Tiles can sometimes become loose or develop cracks over time, especially during busy holiday periods. To fix this, use stone adhesive and exterior wall waterproofing agents. Most traditional tile pastes use cement mortar, which has weak bonding strength and can cause tiles to fall off due to humidity or water exposure. Even adding 107 glue won't provide ideal results. Instead, use resin-based adhesives, which offer strong bonding and prevent tiles from loosening even when exposed to water.

Additionally, grout and adhesive layers can allow water to penetrate, leading to moisture buildup on walls and damaging paint or wallpaper. Using a resin-based stone adhesive combined with an exterior waterproofing agent can solve these issues effectively.

Walls: clean with rubber eraser for non-waterproof surfaces

Kids often leave graffiti on walls, especially if water-based paints are used. As soon as you notice any dirty spots, clean them right away. For water-resistant walls, use a cloth to scrub the area and dry it with a towel. For non-waterproof surfaces, use an eraser or a cloth with some cleaning liquid. The key is to remove stains quickly, as leaving them too long can result in permanent marks.
