Melbourne engineers turn waste into treasure with 3D printers

According to reports from the Australian Network, engineers at Deakin University in Melbourne recently invented a technology to convert plastic waste into various parts using 3D printers. While improving the environment, it is also expected to help solve the drinking water problem in developing countries. The research team is currently raising AUD$30,000 in research and development funds for the public and has already raised AUD$19,000.

Engineers at Deakin University's Advanced Engineering Training and Design Center developed this technology to crush crushed plastic products into pellets, process these pellets into the required print lines for standard 3D printers, and use these print lines to print out various Useful plastic products, such as plumbing components.

Mohamed, a researcher at Deakin Institute of Engineering, said that 3D plastic pipe parts can be used in large quantities for water supply and cleaning equipment. "The most important point of this project is sustainability. This printer can not only use the plastic waste found around, but also can operate through solar cells," Muhammad said.

According to the report, developing countries are facing more and more serious problems of plastic waste and lack of clean drinking water. This invention may have far-reaching significance in solving these problems.

Reken, director of water and environmental sanitation at Plan International Australia, said that the amount of plastic waste in developing countries has exceeded government management capabilities. The rubbish clogged the sewers and flowed into the sea, causing the death of marine life. "Our goal is to turn this waste plastic waste into something useful," said Reken.

Expanded Metal Mesh

Expanded metal is sometimes considered an alternative to sheet metal or wire mesh. It combines some of the best features of both-providing a material that is stronger than thin wire mesh and has better air flow and drainage than sheet metal.
