Japan develops gasoline engine drone

Japanese heavy industry company IHI is developing a new drone in Fukushima Prefecture. It is estimated that about 400 million yen of research and development expenses (about RMB 26 million) will be invested by 2018, and if it is fast, it will be put into use in 2019.

The drone is powered by a petrol engine and can carry up to 15 kg. The design range is 160 kilometers and the battery life is up to 2 hours. In the event of a natural disaster causing a road disruption, the aircraft will be used to deliver relief supplies to isolated areas.

In general, a small drone with an electric motor has a load of about 3 to 5 kg and a battery life of only 15 to 20 minutes. IHI uses engine manufacturing technology to develop a drone using a gasoline engine, which greatly increases the carrying capacity and battery life. The drone can automatically fly to the destination, and when the goods are unloaded, the location is confirmed by a small camera for remote operation.

The IHI-developed drone is equipped with two rotors that carry cartons containing water, food and clothing.
