How to transform clean coal filter press air supply pipe washing filter press

**Reforming the Air Supply Duct of the Clean Coal Filter Press:** In the coal preparation plant, the air supply pipeline of the clean coal filter press was experiencing frequent issues due to the presence of fine coal slurry in the air source. This caused various valves to malfunction, significantly reducing their service life and disrupting normal production processes. After implementing improvements such as purifying and controlling the air source, separating the control duct from the working duct, and replacing pneumatic butterfly valves with pneumatic ball valves, the operational efficiency of the filter press improved considerably. Additionally, the lifespan of the valves was extended, resulting in substantial economic benefits.

**1. Introduction to the XMZG100/1090-U Type Filter Press** The clean coal filter press used in the coal preparation plant is the XMZG100/1090-U diaphragm automatic control filter press. It is equipped with an automated control system and uses gate valves within the blow press system. Both the control system and the blow press system rely on pneumatic butterfly valves. The compressed air generated by the pressure fan is directed through three air bags into a main line, then distributed to the press and blow systems of three pressure filter tanks and three clean coal filter presses. A shut-off valve and a check valve are installed on every air supply line. The pneumatic butterfly valve is controlled by a solenoid valve, and the working air line for the solenoid valve is referred to as the control system. Figure 1 shows a schematic of the air supply system for the clean coal filter press.

**2. Problems Before the Transformation** Before the upgrade, the air piping system of the pressure fan had several critical issues. As shown in Figure 2, although the design of the air supply system seemed feasible, it faced numerous operational problems in practice, leading to frequent failures and inability to maintain normal production. After six months of operation, four major problems were identified: **(1)** The air duct intersected with the coal mud pipe, causing fine coal particles to mix with the air. These particles often clogged the solenoid valve, preventing the pneumatic butterfly valve from opening or closing properly. **(2)** Fine coal slurry tended to settle in areas where the flow was not smooth, leading to improper movement of the butterfly valve’s gate. Frequent movement of the gate valve caused more slurry to accumulate, hardening over time and making the valve inoperable. This also affected the solenoid valve, causing error messages. **(3)** The shut-off valve failed due to the buildup of fine coal slurry, allowing some slime water to flow back into the air duct and contaminate the gas source. **(4)** When the level gauge malfunctioned, slime water from the concentrate tank could enter the pressure blower through the shut-off valve, polluting the air source and causing all solenoid valves to fail, which in turn made the pneumatic butterfly valves inoperative.

**3. Improvement Measures** To address these challenges, several improvement measures were implemented, including purifying the control air source, separating the control and working air ducts, and modifying the air pipeline system. These changes significantly enhanced the reliability and performance of the filter press.
