UK has developed new materials that can be used to capture carbon dioxide

British researchers have recently developed a new kind of porous material. The holes in this material are like "cages". Other gases can pass freely, but carbon dioxide is trapped. Therefore, this material is expected to be used for industrial capture of carbon dioxide. Reduce carbon emissions.

Researchers at institutions such as Nottingham University reported in the UK's Nature Materials magazine that they have developed a new material called NOTT-202a. Its molecular structure unit is centered on indium atoms, surrounded by a variety of organic molecular chains woven into a "cage", the overall appearance of porous features, and some similar to the honeycomb structure in nature.

Experiments have shown that this “cage” has a special property. If air is pressed into this porous material, most of the gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, and methane can then come out of the “cage”. Carbon dioxide alone will be left locked in the "cage."

The researchers said that in the context of the current need to reduce CO2 emissions in response to climate change, this material is expected to be used for industrial capture of carbon dioxide. For example, the capture device made of this material is installed in the factory's chimney to reduce carbon emissions from the plant and help reduce emissions. (Reporter: Huang Xin)
