According to reports, among the dyes used in clothing and textile products, aromatic amines, which are intermediates of some dyes, have carcinogenic effects if they come in contact with the skin. Therefore, hundreds of specific azo dyes containing this substance are used by the European Union, the United States, and many others. The country has successively been listed as prohibited. In the industry self-regulatory standards officially released in Japan, the content of 22 specific azo dyes involved in apparel and textile products must not exceed 30 mg/kg, aiming to conform to international textile standards.

It is understood that more than 80% of the clothing and textile products in the Japanese market are imported from China and it is one of the markets that China’s apparel and textile export enterprises attach great importance to. The implementation of the new standards will inevitably increase the costs of exporting enterprises in the short term, and will bring certain trade risks to exporting companies. The inspection and quarantine authorities reminded relevant companies to actively respond to them, strengthen the procurement and acceptance of raw and auxiliary materials, actively communicate with customers, and send sample tests in advance if necessary to ensure that the export products meet the new requirements of the importing country.
